The Valley Center Jaguars’ Awards Banquet for the Girls Tennis Team was held Thursday November 30 at the High School Media Center (library.)
The night included Varsity and JV tennis teams, their extended families, the JV Coach Sue Tidwell and the three Varsity coaches: Seth Leichtfuss, Tim Clark and Head Coach Tom Helms.
The event started with a dinner of pastas, salads, and desert all prepared by the school’s culinary classes and paid for with donations.
Coach Tom Helms gave a short opening discussion of the tennis season, and team philosophy.
He spoke of some highlights of the season. The most impressive victory was against a good doubles team from Grossmont. Jaguars Sayta Davis and Hailey Johnson were down 0 games to 5. One more point and they would lose, but they turned it around and won 7 games in a row to win.
Helms went on to praise the players for their on court and off court abilities. He told the attending parents that as a team the young ladies topped all fall season athletic teams in grade point averages. He thanked the parents for their support and involvement and coaches Leichtfuss and Clark for the volunteerism and dedicated work with the team.
During the awards portion JV Coach Tidwell introduced her players, and gave a short description of their season and the awards. The Coaches’ Award went to sophomore Sophia Cox, who played her last two matches with the varsity.
Most Improved Player award went to Jade Conigilio, a junior who also played on varsity her last two matches.
The Most Valuable Player (MVP) went to Noelle Dixon a junior who would have played varsity at the end of the year, but was unavailable.
The Varsity Awards included awards for academics as well as athletics. Coach Helms gave a short description of their season and then turned it over to Coach Leichtfuss and Coach Clark,…
