The Indian River Genealogy Society has been involved in a very large project over the past few years: documenting all the headstones and burials this county.

This picks up on and includes the information written in a book by the society in 1987. I am sure it has helped many a person near and far locate the last resting place of a loved one.

I, among many others in the society, have spent many hot hours amongst fire ants, bees, vines, etc., to do this, and sometimes the weather is uncooperative.

The lack of rain during many months this year took its toll on the grass in many of the areas, but I would like to say that the Sebastian Cemetery, under the direction of Kip Kelso and his very small staff, have come through with flying colors.

I was there recently, and the grounds look terrific — green and very well-kept.

Kip has been unfailing in his help to us, not only initially but now that we are trying to keep our information updated. A project like this is always a “work in progress.” See what we have done atIRGS.org/cemeteryRecords.
