Beaverton School District Boosts Middle School Achievement with Apex Learning Digital Curriculum

Results from independent research like that at Beaverton School District confirm that the use of Apex Learning digital curriculum raises student achievement.

Apex Learning digital curriculum has a significant impact on student achievement, according to recent data released by Beaverton School District in Oregon (BSD). The district used Apex Learning digital curriculum to provide targeted intervention and remediation and personalize learning in the classroom to better prepare students for standardized tests. During the 2014 – 2015 school year, seventh and eighth grade students from two BSD middle schools demonstrated significant gains on the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) in math and English compared to similar students participating in traditional classroom instruction alone.

Students using the Apex Learning digital curriculum were 13 percent more likely to meet or exceed the SBAC standards than other students and 20 percent more likely to meet or exceed the standards for English language arts. Students meeting or exceeding standards for math trended higher for students using the digital curriculum compared to students participating in traditional instruction alone. Additionally, the average digital curriculum user gained four percentile points overall and 11 percentile points on the English language arts SBAC summative assessments compared to similar students not using the digital curriculum.
